When we first launched the DDD we found knitwear designer Brooke Roberts and placed her in our On the Rise designers for Issue One and rise she did. As the current Creative in Residence for The Hospital Club in London, Roberts (a trained diagnostic radiographer that uses images of scans to create unique loomed knitwear) partnered with Riccardo Buscarini (Dance CiR 2011), Elspeth Brooke (Music CiR 2011) and Bianca Wendt (Graphic Design CiR) to present a collaboration called Wo÷Man Machine.
Using a mix of 1950’s sci-fi as inspiration mixed with available scientific imagery from the Allen Institute for Brain Science she placed 15 dancers performing the collection. Grabbing sound bites from the hospital so that the pack was a truly functioning symphony/machine of fashion. The palette was a pinky buff mixed with grey, white and the most beautiful vivid citron. Skirts and sweaters had horizontal striping creating perfect textural accents. The 1950’s came to play with a square pattern and the woven prints of brain scans were pastel, soft and more subtle than previous seasons.
The clear belts with wooden buckles by Eye of the World for Brooke Roberts were the perfect accessories.
The entire presentation was such a unique original inspired representation of her label’s identity: science meets fashion, originality meets wearability. Once again, I am in love.
