Set against the backdrop inspired by the Renwick Ruins (an abandoned smallpox hospital) on Roosevelt Island in NYC, Sally LaPointe delivered a collection that was linear yet progressive to her previous collections.
Minutes before the show had begun to start, there was an excited hush that could be felt and heard from the front row all the way to the back. Fog and spotlighting filled the room of what appeared to be a creepy yet gorgeous ruin. The sheer pant and structured jacket that opened the show would be the thesis for the rest of the collection that followed. LaPointe’s signature shoulder and architectural shapes were present, but the sheer pairings, limey colors, and the dreamy prints gave the collection a fresh softness appropriate for spring. The second look to walk provided a great contrast by the inclusion of a cutout at the shoulder. This subtraction of volume at the shoulder created an emphasis on the area and looked refreshing when especially when done in the limes and print. Aside from the bold shoulders, peplums were plenty and done in layers in a very Asian aesthetic.
While Sally LaPointe has been wildly successful with celebrity and editorial demands of her bold architectural designs, it was fantastic to see some great pieces that are more relatable for the less daring.
