//DDD//Dominic Louis, Fall 2012

Written by Gordon West, Contributing Fashion Editor @itakemycamera Photography by Gordon West For Dominic Louis, the mission to embody raw insecurity inspired his Fall 2012 collection leading him on a journey of discovering the emotions that surface in moments of insecurity, and then translating those emotions into a tailored vision. In the candlelit halls of the Bowery Hotel, Louis unveiled his unisex collection in a setting that could best be described as a sleek, gothic menagerie.

Poised on individual pedestals, the models exhibited cashmere reaper hoods, silk leggings, ariel jeans, bomber jackets, sweaters and breastplates that embodied the darkest of emotions. Black dominated the collection with some oxblood, true red, rich browns and pale eggplant spread throughout to offer visual variants. With some pieces easily flirting with the realm of fetishes, some offering a biker vibe, and some inspiring thoughts of macabre high priests and priestesses, the collection achieves Louis’s mission to beautify the darkest moments we have all undoubtedly experienced. And though insecurity was the impetus for the collection, it’s hardly a word that could be used to accurately describe a designer able to address and execute a questionable mission so deftly.
