DDD: Who, in your opinion, is the single most interesting figure in art right now?
AB: I think Kathy Grayson, owner of The Hole, is one of the most interesting figures right now. Her gallery is bridging the gap between the fine art and the commercial art world in a way that is very exciting. I never believed the two worlds should be so separate - so I’m happy to see there is a gallerist out there who kinda sees things like I do.
DDD: What do you like and dislike about the art scene in New York/Brooklyn right now? What would you like to see change?
AB: What I like is the access to art and creative minds. I think it brings NYC alive and makes it the city I want to stay near.
What I dislike: the snobbish attitudes. I suppose the art world has always been like this - but I hate schmoozing and talking bullshit with people just so I can have connections. I guess this isn’t even art world specific - it applies to every section of life. But it’s definitely alive and well in the art world. I’m generally a quiet and introverted person so I know I can never be part of the scene in that way. (Part 4/5)
